“I” and not “i”
Some days back I was sent for LDP
Training. This first module of training was about “Manage Self” Before reaching
the venue I just had my own preconception that it would just be about
managing time and work and put things in places. But it was totally
different, something which we always know but always forgets.
We always forget the “I” in us. It is
actually a capital “I” which means that you are also important and equally
deserving. But with all the chores of life right from family to work to
deadline this “I” is lost and we only remember it as small “i” So true. We
always forget everything about us in our busy life. We just don’t have time to
sit back and think about ourselves, our self as individual. We actually need to
hit hard to remember when was the last time we spent time with our self and yes
we do remember spending time with spouse, family, friends, office etc every
single person but not “I” in this busy lives we forget about enjoying small
things in life. As we grow up we forget how fun it is to play in first rain.
With all the sophisticated manners we forget to enjoy ice cream by making your
hands and mouth sticky. We forget to just sit back and read a good book with a
good cup of coffee. I felt it so funny
when I was asked what I do on a day off. I actually don’t remember any day
being spent for me. I have always been running to do things.
In Time Management studies there is
something called as Time Quadrant Theory. It is basically nothing but quadrants
in which our work is divided. The quadrants are like below
QUADRANT I
IMPORTANT
AND
URGENT
|
QUADRANT II
IMPORTANT
BUT
NOT URGENT
|
QUADRANT III
URGENT
BUT
NOT IMPORTANT
|
QUADRANT IV
NOT URGENT
AND
NOT IMPORTANT
|
We have got all things divided in
these four quadrants. And we put our self in Quadrant II or may be at times in Quadrant IV. I personally always put my health in Quadrant IV. I know if I kept
it in Quadrant IV soon it will be a time when it would shift directly to
Quadrant I. Ideally we should put ourselves in Quadrant II and take care so that
it never goes to Quadrant I. But we always have this tendency to keep ourselves
in Quadrant II or Quadrant IV.
We always have a fantastically
articulated reason for not spending time with ourselves and that is “We are
busy” We are never busy; it’s just that our priorities are different. And “I”
as a priority is always in Quadrant IV.
I have decided for sure that for me
it would always be “I” and not “i” and I will always put myself in Quadrant II.
